Design Style and Inspirations

“It looks fabulous and functions perfectly as a three-storey terrace”

King’s Terrace is one-of-a kind project, made with steel framing, delivered directly from the factory floor to the site and stacked on top like a Lego house.

Inspired by contemporary designs of modern architecture, its walls are natural cedar mixed with colour steel cladding.
The complementary materials selected for King’s Terrace reflect the same outstanding long-life performance and ageless grace of the design itself. Strong, durable and well made.

Project Highlight

Working closely with the structural engineer at the start of the project means that the design process becomes more holistic and symbiotic, whereby innovative structural solutions can help inform design. Ideally this collaboration would extend further with all design consultants, by engaging a contractor early on to facilitate a truly integrated design process.

Many mass-steel construction advocates promote the advantages of a shorter construction programme. This relates to actual construction time on site. However, time in the design process needs to account for the need to produce more detailed construction drawings. With earlier provision of more detailed design documents then the shop drawing process would be as per traditional contract procedures and be part of the contractor’s tender.

  • Factory environment – Work done in the enclosed factory to reduce time on site like painting, spring washers or lock nuts, all pre-torqued.
  • Design/Manufacture/Protection/Stacking/Transportation.
  • Site set out/handling on site/installation sequencing

Is the modular build system faster than a traditional build?

For the King’s Terrace project, the mass steel fabrication and factory assembly had a saving of 1.5 months compared with the traditional build methodology.

These 1.5 months were saved during what would have been the critical raining season. On top of this, the factory was able to run 15 hours per day, speeding up the frame installation process, completing up to the roof and gutter install.
